IronMan Arizona Volunteer Opportunities!

Have you ever wanted to experience the Ironman Triathlon up close?  I have a way to do just that without killing yourself training for this event.

This will be a fun and fulfilling day of helping others.  Come on out and hand out water, food, and words of encouragement.

See the detailed volunteer information here.

Swim Clinic Series with Chris Aikman

This is a 3 part series of Saturday morning swim clinics for FWT members and guests located at the Arrowhead Country Club Pool in Glendale. No matter whether you are training for sprint, olympic half or full Ironman races, Chris has fine tuned these clinics specific for the Triathlete at every level.

We have dates in February, March and April and are free to all FWT members in good standing and a drop in fee of $10 for any guest. Come to one, two or all three. As a guest, you receive a discount if you do all three clinics and pay up front a $25 fee instead of $30.

The clinics will be starting at 7:00 a.m. and will be finished before 9:00 a.m.

Feel free to brikng your bike or run gear to take off on a brick after the clinic. Showers and locker rooms are available. You can bring your bikes down to the pool as well. The dates are set for 2/16, 3/8 and 4/5.

See the posted workouts for details on each session.

VO2 Max Testing at Glendale Community College

We are doing VO2max tests at GCC. Our tests are very sophisticated and laboratory quality. We have the capability of performing treadmill or bike ergometer tests protocols to determine VO2max and Lactate Threshold. We are charging very little for these tests (see the price schedule below).

The tests are performed by Lisa Lewis, a Faculty at GCC and an Exercise Physiologist (Master of Science degree and soon to be Doctor) and an active Consulting Exercise Physiologist to the Seattle Mariners team.

The VO2max test price schedule is:
- For Students taking any of the Fitness or Nutrition classes (such as Triathlon Training, etc.)  $75
- For any GCC student  $95
- For First Wavers or other running or triathlon club  $125

For more information and to schedule a VO2max test, they can email Dr. Carlos V. Nunez at slowest_man@hotmail.com or call (480) 794 0412

CONGRATULATIONS FWT PF Chang's Rock-n-Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon Participants!

Monday January 14, 2008
Today's Arizona Republic is out. We have good representation in the top 150 listed in the sports section for the Full and Half Marathon yesterday.

Michaela Skelly-Lankford took 10th overall in the women's Half Marathon with a 1:27:57 time. WOW!

In the Full Distance:

Dan Cadriel was 86th overall with 2:59:06
Trevor Sehr was 94th male with 3:00:23
Matt Grove wearing FWT colors proudly was 142 with a 3:07:20 time. Now just get the membership app and fees in Matt! ;-)

There were a lot of club members out there and all did very well in the 20 degree higher temps from last year! It was a beautiful day - especially when it was all over!

Club Uniform and Polo Shirt Information

Uniforms: Due to the overwhelming interest in Club uniforms it has come time to place another order.
Polo Shirts: We've requested more details on the women's shirts from The Perfect Touch but haven't gotten an answer yet. We will need a total of at least 12 shirts (men's and women's) to be able to get the $30 price. If we don't get enough of the female orders then they will have to be added to the male order to get to 12 shirts. I don't have a picture for the men's, but Mike and Dan have worn the shirts at the last two meetings and will again this next Tues.

In order to receive the uniforms in time it will require a prompt response from all who are interested. We are setting a DEADLINE of July 25th for payment.

Shirt (M & W) $30
