January Club Meeting - 2013

WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR!!! This is the start of another exciting year in the sport of triathlon. It is our hope to help you set your goals, make your plan, and surpass your own expectations this year!

WE WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME OUR NEWEST CLUB SPONSOR, TIM PICCIOTT CFP CRPC WITH WADDELL & REED (http://www.tpicciott.wrfa.com) who is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor, aside from being an ace swimmer (and also now an IRONMAN!).  If one of your new year’s resolutions was to get your financial ducks in a row, Tim will be giving a brief overview of the services he and his company provide to help you with your financial goals…so you can afford your triathlon goals! Not only that…Tim will be providing some great appetizers for everyone so you can have something to eat along with whatever beverage you choose (members need to purchase their alcoholic beverages due to Waddell & Reed policy).

AND…

PLANNING YOUR TRIATHLON RACE CALENDAR…it’s that time of year to decide what your goals are and how you are going to achieve them. What races will you do? How can I decide how many and which ones can I do within my triathlon budget? What races are there to do, and which ones are “favorites”? We will have a discussion with member input on how to plan your year. Plan on being there to plan!

AND…

ELECTIONS…it is also that time of year to vote for the new board members. Positions open to a vote are President, Vice-President, and Secretary. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED either in running for one of these offices or nominating someone else to, please contact Rick Stanfield at Rick.Stanfield@nocousa.com with your suggested nominations by SUNDAY, JAN 13, so he has time to make-up the ballot. Those who are seeking an office will be given a few minutes to introduce themselves and to express their vision for the club prior to the vote. Please make your voice be heard and VOTE at the meeting!

That’s about all we can squeeze into an hour and a half, so here are the rest of the details you need to know:

WHEN:                  WEDNESDAY, JAN 23, FROM 6:30PM to 8PM

WHERE:                ROCK BOTTOM BREWERY (in the meeting room)

Located at 7640 W. Bell Rd near Glendale’s Arrowhead Mall

See you there! Reply to this email if you have any questions and a board member will get back to you ASAP.

When:  Tuesday,  November 20, 2012  - 6:30PM

MEETING DETAILS

So we will have the pleasure of learning about one of the more effective treatment methods for stubborn injuries.  This method is called Trigger Point Dry Needling.  If you don’t know what this is you are going to want to attend this meeting.   Many of us have injuries that are stubborn and don’t seem to want to heal.  This treatment has proven to be very effective for these situations.

WHEN: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24 – 6:30PM

WHERE: FOOTHILLS SPORTS MEDICINE – 7707 W. DEER VALLEY ROAD  #100

WHAT:  LEARN THE WONDERS OF TRIGGER POINT DRY NEEDLING

PUT THIS NIGHT ON YOUR CALENDER!

September club meeting - Monday, Sept 24 - 6:30 PM

GOOD4LIFESHOP.COM SEPTEMBER

We have a wonderful treat for you all!  You will not want to miss the September 24 Club Meeting – 6:30pm at 3rd Place Grill  15814 N. 83rd Ave

This might be one of the healthiest meetings you’ve ever been to.  We are going to divide everyone up into different tables based on age group and gender (kind of like waves in a tri).  You will then have the pleasure of learning:

TABLE 1: The theme being “Quick, healthy salad”.  Rumor has it that Cathy Cooper will give away trade secrets at this table!

TABLE 2: The theme for this table will be “Curry Salmon Salad in Pita”  This tasty, stuffed pita provides all the necessary nutrients for exercise recovery. Salmon provides essential omega 3 fatty acids to reduce inflammation and promote muscle recovery.  Oh yeah, you’re gonna want more!

TABLE 3: Clive will run this table with the theme being “Healthy Supplements”  - Clive will have a large representation of his products there.  This is why we are grouping by age and gender.  This is the focused info you’ve been wishing for!

TABLE 4: The theme for this table will be “Cherry and Blackberry Smoothie”  The cherries and cherry juice have anti-inflammatory effects that have been shown to reduce muscle soreness following exercise.  Who can resist a Cherry and Blackberry Smoothie!

Yes my friends, you will get to eat some!  But keep in mind, this isn’t a meal.  Eat before you come.

We will do demo, provide handout showing details of how to make it and then folks will switch tables.

This is a very hands on approach that we hope our members will be able to take with them and apply for themselves.

Don’t miss this one!!!!!!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: LANCE HAS PROMISED US:  “For that night we'll increase our First Wave discount from 15% to 20% so feel free to spread the word.  The one restriction to the discount is that electronic products are capped at a 10% discount.”

October Club Meeting - Tuesday, October 27th @ 6:30pm

This month's guest speaker will be Dan Brinkman from Pinnacle Peak Events.

Pinnacle Peak Events provides racing opportunities for all levels of athletes, from the dabbler to the extremist and our events include a variety of sports such as running, cycling and swimming. Our events are professionally managed, fully staffed, and most of all, they are really freakin' fun.

Who are Pinnacle Peak Events? We are Mike and Dan and for the last 20 years, we've been doing a lot of things together: training, racing, drinking too much coffee, and losing our hair at an alarming rate.

We founded Pinnacle Peak Events with the idea that races can and should be fun, different, safe, challenging and rewarding, and not just for the race participants, but for staff, volunteers and sponsors as well. We welcome all levels of athletes at all of our events and we train our staff and volunteers to have all the information you could ever need, especially if you’re a beginner. Between the two of us, we’ve finished over 100 races and we recall the experience more than anything else - more than our places or rankings. Mind you, the experience wasn’t always good! We realized that almost all of those 100-plus race experiences could have been better in some way, and thus, our passion became what you know today as PPE. We are committed to providing you with the smoothest, most seamless, safest and most enjoyable race experience at each and every one of our events.  Please visit our website for more information.   www.pinnaclepeakevents.com
